Discipline in Public Transport at any Cost

Staff Reporter: Buses without route permits operating in Dhaka city will be seized said Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). He has also expressed his determination to bring order in public transport at any cost.

Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh, Mayor and President of Bus Route Rationalization Committee, told reporters after the 19th meeting of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee at Dhaka South City Corporation's (DSCC) Nagar Bhaban's Buriganga Hall on Sunday (November 26).

Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said, "There is chaos in public transport in Dhaka city. That is why we will be more strict. We have seen - route permits are taken on one route but not on that route. We will take action against the bus and the bus of one route cannot be operated on another route. The bus must be operated on the route taken by the route permit. Otherwise, the bus will not run. So we are very strict now. We will bring order in public transport in Dhaka city. . "

Reiterating his stern stance on bringing full discipline in public transport, Mayor Barrister Sheikh Taposh said, "We will launch a crackdown on the 1646 buses without route permits from December 1. The crackdown will be tough. We will seize them. Not only fines, we will seize and destroy illegal buses wherever we find them without route permits, so that these vehicles do not come on the road. "

Expressing commitment to implement bus route rationalization activities by overcoming non-cooperation of bus owners and various obstacles, the mayor said, The initiative was taken, but it did not work out. The long-standing congestion in public transport has many stakeholders. It is a difficult task to bring everyone under control. However, we have taken this initiative very firmly. We are determined, we will implement it. "

The DSCC mayor said, "This committee was set up to bring order to public transport in Dhaka city. We started our activities in October last year after the two mayors took charge.

"We will now issue a notification. With the notification, we will receive applications from entrepreneurs and other investors by December 12. In response to that application, we will fix 100 new buses, including 30 from BRTC," the mayor said.

North City Corporation Mayor. Atiqul Islam said, "We tried our best not to make a mistake. We tried to implement it on the first of December. But for various reasons we could not. The biggest challenge is - the bus owners. In this context, the bus service from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur will start from December 26 in collaboration with BRTC.

The DNCC mayor further said, "Initially, 100 vehicles will run on this route. BRTC has confirmed that 30 buses will be provided for the test operation of this route. Each bus has two floors."
