Staff Reporter: Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad's murder case has been postponed to December 8. On Sunday (November 28), the judge of the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Abu Jafar. Kamruzzaman has set the date. Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan was the state counsel in the court.

Earlier, out of the 25 accused, 19 have been registered and six others are under investigation. 17 out of 19 persons were arrested and 5 persons out of 6 persons were arrested. Among the arrested, 8 have given confessional statements in court.

22 people were arrested - Mehedi Hasan Russell, Md. Anik Sarkar, Ifti Musharraf morning, Md. Mehedi Hasan Robin, Meftahul Islam Zion, Muntasir Alam Jemi, Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir, Mujahidur Rahman, Muhtasim Fouad, Moniruzzaman Monir, Akash Hossain Toha, Majedur Rahman, Shamim Billah, Moaz Abu Hurayra. Ahmed Munna, Amit Saha, Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Morshed Amatya Islam and SM Mahmud Setu.

Three accused in the case are still absconding. They are Morsheduzzaman Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim and Mostaba Rafid. The first two of them are declared and the last one is not declared.

On September 14, the judge read out the allegations against the accused and the testimony of 46 witnesses. At this time the judge asked them, are you guilty or innocent? In reply, they claimed their innocence and demanded justice from the court. The court then fixed the date for the presentation of arguments.

Later, on September 15, 2020, Judge Abu Jafar Mohammad of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1. Kamruzzaman framed charges against the accused. Out of a total of 60 witnesses in the case, 46 testified.

Earlier, on the night of October 6, 2019, some leaders and activists of the BUET branch of Chhatra League called Abrar Fahad for criticizing various agreements of Bangladesh with India and giving him status on Facebook. His body was recovered from the two-storied corridor of Sher-e-Bangla Hall at around 3 pm on the same day.

Abrar's body was autopsied at the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital morgue on October 7 at noon. The deceased Abrar was a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BUET. He lived in room 1011 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station. Later, on November 13, 2019, Wahiduzzaman, the investigating officer of the case, filed a charge sheet against 25 people in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

According to the charge sheet of the case, the accused brutally beat Abrar to death by making false, fabricated and baseless allegations against him. The charge sheet identified Abrar's roommate Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan as the mastermind behind the murder of Abrar Fahad Rabbi. He was the one who suspected that Abrar was a camp. After that, some accused held a meeting in the guest room of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and decided to kill. Abrar was later beaten to death.
