Own Correspondent: The capital city will enter the metro rail era next year as the construction work of metro rail and subway is going on in full swing. This project will ensure smooth and easy transportation for city-dwellers and save their travel time as well. If everything goes well, the capital city will enter the metro era in December 2021. A total of 128.741 kilometers of metro rail including the metro subway will be constructed.
There will be a total of 104 modern stations under the ground, the train will stop at each station for 30 seconds. These subways will run on 11 lines, of which Bangladesh Bridge Authority wants to complete the work of four lines by 2030.
These mega projects will help the city dwellers comfortable commuting with smooth transportation from one place to another. Once completed, the 20.10km metro rail service with 16 stations will be capable of carrying 60,000 passengers an hour, reducing travel time from Uttara to Motijheel.
A total of 11 routes in Dhaka have been identified for the implementation of this plan. The first four routes are from Jhilmil residential area to Tongi, Siddhirganj to Kamrangichar, Uttara-Narayanganj, Mastul from Gabtali whose work is 92 km long. Bangladesh Bridge Authority wants to complete the work by 2030.
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority on Wednesday (March 24th) held a seminar at a hotel in the capital with officials from foreign companies involved in the feasibility study of these roads.
In this regard, Kazi Mohammad Ferdous, secretary and project director of the bridge department, said, "It has been decided to implement these lines by 2070." Of these, 4 will be implemented in 30 years and 4 more in 40 years.
Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader, who also attended the event, said that if the project is implemented, the subway will be the means of transportation for 4 million people. And 60,000 people per hour will use this train.
It was informed at the function that the bridge authority will coordinate the construction of flyovers and metrorails in the capital during the construction of the subway.
