Own Correspondent: The Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr Lotay Tshering paid tributes to martyrs of Bangladesh liberation war at National Memorial in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.
The visiting Prime Minister of Bhutan visited the National Memorial in Savar at 10:38 am on Tuesday (March 23). After paying homage to the martyrs of the liberation war, he signed the visitor's book and planted a fruit sapling. A smartly turned-out contingent of Defence Force gave him a guard of honour while the bugles played the last post.
“It is an honour for me to pay tribute to the brave sons of Bangladesh who sacrificed their lives for the country during the Liberation War. May their sacrifices remain etched in the annals of Bangladesh’s history,” wrote Dr. Tshering in the visitors’ book.
The Prime Minister of Bhutan left the National Memorial at 10:50 am. The Bhutanese Prime Minister had tight security on his way to and from savar. The Dhaka-Aricha highway was closed at that time.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Bhutan arrived in Dhaka on a three-day state visit at 10:15 am. At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport red carpet rolled out on his reception.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina received her Bhutanese counterpart at the VVIP tarmac of the airport with a bouquet. She was accompanied by Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and other high-ups. The premier of Vhutan was accorded guard of honour.
In the evening, he will attend a cultural programme followed by a banquet to be hosted by the Bangladesh prime minister.
His visit is to attend twin mega celebrations, commemorating birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence.
