News Desk: People of different traditions and communities are living in Bangladesh with dignity. Pope Francis commented that such an inclusive society was Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's dream.
On Wednesday (March 24), Pope Francis spoke on the eighth day of a 10-day event titled 'Mujib Chiranton' on the occasion of the Mujib Year and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.
At the time, the Pope said, Bangladesh is a country of unique natural beauty and modernity. Where people of different traditions and communities with diverse language and culture are moving forward in harmony. It is one of the legacies of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman which Sheikh Mujibur Rahman which he left behind for all Bangladeshis. “I welcome this opportunity to offer heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the president, PM and the beloved people of Bangladesh as the nation celebrates the hundredth birthday of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh. He promoted a culture of encounter and dialogue, marked by wisdom, insight and breadth of vision."
"He knew that it is only in such a pluralistic and inclusive society, in which every person could live in freedom, peace and security,that a more just and fraternal world can be built," added the Pope.
This top religious leader of Catholic Christians prayed to the Creator for the continued progress of Bangladesh.
Pope Francis, the the head of Vatican City, said: “Bangladesh is a young state and it has always had a special place in the heart of the popes, who from the start have expressed solidarity with its people, sought to accompany them in overcoming initial adversities, and supported them in the demanding task of nation building and development."
'I hope that the good relations between Vatican City and Bangladesh will be further developed. At the same time, I believe that inter-religious communication and dialogue will continue in Bangladesh.
He said, "I firmly believe that the future of democracy and political life in Bangladesh is linked to the founding goal of the country, standing on the 50th anniversary of independence." Besides, it is related to the dialogue and the sense of diversity of the past.
Calling on all to work for the country, the Pope said, "As a friend of Bangladesh, I urge you, especially the youth, to work for the peace and progress of the great nation."
"At the same time, we continue to work with compassion and humanity for the refugees, the poor, the disadvantaged and the underprivileged."
