America has a lesson to learn from Bangladesh's election: CEC

Votes are being taken in the by-elections of Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1 parliamentary seats of the Jatiya Sangsad. The Dhaka-17 seat became vacant on June 13 after the death of Awami League presidium member and former home minister Sahara Khatun. BNP candidate SM Jahangir Hossain in this by-election.

The total number of voters in this constituency is 5 lakh 6 thousand 17 people. Six candidates are contesting in it. They are- Mohammad Habib Hasan of Awami League, SM Jahangir Hossain of BNP, Nasir Uddin Sarkar of Jatiya Party, Kazi Mohammad of People's Front. Shahidullah, Omar Farooq of the Bangladesh Congress and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Mobibullah Bahar.

Awami League candidate Tanvir Shakil Joy and BNP candidate Selim Reza are contesting in Sirajganj-1 constituency. Sirajganj-1 constituency consists of five unions of Kazipur and Sirajganj Sadar upazilas. The total number of voters here is 3 lakh 45 thousand 603 people. There are 16 polling stations.
