Buses of 22 companies will run on 42 routes of the capital

Staff Correspondent: Work is underway to reduce the number of routes in the capital to 42 from 291 earlier. The scheduled buses will operate under 22 companies comprising 2500 bus owners on these routes. Besides, buses coming from Gazipur and Narayanganj districts adjoining the capital will have to stay at the terminal outside the city. This will reduce the traffic congestion and reduce the additional pressure in Dhaka.

South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said this at a meeting of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee at Buriganga Hall of Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday (November 10). North City Corporation Mayor at the meeting. Atiqul Islam shared his views from the connected through the online platform.

DSCC Mayor Taposh said the Bus Route Rationalization Committee is working to give the city dwellers the gift of discipline and traffic-free roads. The progress of the work of the committee has also come a long way. We have proposed to reduce the number of routes from 291 routes to 42 routes comprising employers, workers and law enforcement agencies. Where 2500 owners of 4,500 vehicles operating in Dhaka will be brought under 22 companies.

'If this can be done, the traffic congestion will be reduced a lot. Besides, a designated terminal will be set up outside the city for vehicles coming from Dhaka's neighboring cities like Gazipur and Narayanganj. Where passengers will return to their suburbs after unloading, it will reduce traffic congestion and reduce the additional pressure on the city. '

He said there are three terminals in the two cities of Dhaka which is not enough, forcing most of the vehicles to park on the road. We have identified possible locations for 10 terminals in Dhaka. The final proposal for the number of terminals will have to be submitted by December 31. It will be decided at the next meeting in January. However, all the proposals made by our committee will be made in coordination with the owners 'association and the workers' federation.
