9 killed as 2 buses collide

Sun News Desk: At least nine people have been killed and 50 others injured as two buses collided at Taraganj upazila in Rangpur.

The accident took place on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway near Shaleyashah Bridge around 12:30am on Monday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Locals told, a Thakurgaon-bound bus of Zoana Paribahan collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus of Islam Paribahan, leaving five people dead on the spot and injured fifty others. Being informed, police, fire service and local people recovered them and sent to different hospitals.

Mahbub Morhsed, Officer-in-charge of Taraganj Highway Police Station, said five dead bodies were recovered from the spot. At least 50 injured people were admitted to RMCH and of them some are in critical conditions.

Md Farhaduzzaman, a doctor of RMCH’s emergency department, said three people died while undergoing treatment here early in the morning. Of the injured, two are in critical conditions.
