Wedding car and dumper collision killes 14

STaff Reporter: At least 14 people were killed ia a tragic accident in Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal on Tuesday 19th, night.The death toll is expected to rise further.

According to police sources, a stone-laden dumper overturned in the Mainatali area near Jaldhaka Bridge at around 9 pm. Just behind the dumper loaded with stone was a small car. The car collided head-on with the wrecked dumper. The dumper then overturned on top of two other small vehicles. The exact figure of the passengers in those two vehicles is yet to know.

However, eyewitnesses said that there were several passengers in the car, including children. They are local residents left home to attend a wedding.14 deaths were reported till 11 pm.

Several people are still trapped under the vehicle, local sources said. Police and fire brigade are conducting rescue operation.

According to locals, hundreds of dumpers loaded with sand and stones ply the road every day making the area prone to accidents.
