Two killed as bus hits tree

Sun News Desk: Two persons were killed and 40 others injured while a school picnic bus overturned and hit a roadside tree in Gopalganj on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Sudipta Biswas, 35, a lab assistant of Bakri Bahumukhi School in Bagharpara in Jashore and Biddut Kumar Biswas, 45, a parent of one of the school students.

More than 20 people were admitted to Jashore General Hospital for treatment.

A teacher of the school Biswajit Kumar Pal said there were 150 people, including ninth and tenth-graders, their parents and teachers, were returning to Jashore from Gopalganj’s Tungipara after picnic boarding on three buses.

He said the accident took place in Bhatiapara intersection of Kashiani upazila around 8pm on Thursday when one of the buses attempted to overtake a bus and overturned after hitting a roadside tree.

The bus had 50 passengers on board and Biddut died on the spot. Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to different hospitals in the area.
