International Desk: The French government has decided to grant citizenship to immigrants who have worked on the frontline against the coronavirus as a reward for their work. To that end, the country's interior ministry has invited immigrants to apply for citizenship.
In the meantime, the citizenship of more than 700 immigrants has been approved or is in the final stages of approval. Among them are health workers, cleaners and shop workers. This information has been revealed from the report of the British media BBC.
Frontline workers around the world are coming into contact with Covid-19 at a high rate. Meanwhile, many doctors and nurses are dying of the virus. France is one of the top 10 countries in the world infected with coronavirus. More than 2.5 million people have been infected in the country. About 62,000 people have died.
The French government first announced the initiative last September to award citizenship to front-line fighters fighting the Corona pandemic in their country. Under this, 74 immigrants have already been given French passports. Another 693 are in the final stages of the citizenship process. So far 2,890 people have applied for citizenship.
A statement from the office of Marilyn Schippa, France's junior minister for citizenship, said on Tuesday (December 22nd): Now it is the responsibility of the republic to take action for them.
