International Desk: Former US President Donald Trump is nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace prize. Environment activist Greta Thunberg and Russian dissident Alexei Navalny are among those nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2021 and all are backed by Norwegian lawmakers who have a track record of picking the winner.
The nomination submitted in favor of Mr. Trump is a Norwegian Law maker Christian Tybring-Gjedde. The member of the Parliament lauded Trump for his efforts toward resolving protracted conflicts worldwide.
Mr. Tybring, a four times member of parliament said, “For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,” in his nomination letter to the Nobel Committee he said ,the Trump administration has played a key role in the establishment of relations between Israel and The UAE, also played a vital role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties and … creating new dynamics in other protracted conflicts, such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and the conflict between North and South Korea, as well as dealing with the nuclear capabilities of North Korea.”
Tybring-Gjedde, further, praised Mr. Trump is fur praised for withdrawing a large number of troops from the Middle East.
Thousands of people, from members of parliaments worldwide to former winners, are eligible to propose candidates. However, Nominations, which close on Sunday, do not imply an endorsement from the Nobel committee.
The recipient is selected by the five member Norwegian Nobel Committee, who are appointed by the Parliament of Norway.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, which decides who will win the award, does not comment on nominations. This tradition of keeping the names of nominators and nominees secret is going on for 50 years
