Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh has created a new milestone. The entire Padma Bridge, built with its own funds, became visible on Thursday. This morning, by placing this span named 'Two-F' on the pillars 12 and 13 of the bridge, 6.15 km of the bridge became visible.

Earlier, the 41st span left Mawa Kumarbhog Construction Yard in Munshiganj at noon on Wednesday and reached the designated pillar in the evening, confirmed Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Dewan Abdul Quader.

The installation of spans on pillars 12 and 13 began on Thursday morning. And it is visible in 6.15 kilometers. With the installation of the 41st span, a new muffler was created.

Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the construction of the main bridge and Sino Hydro Corporation, another company in the country, is working on river management. Abdul Momen Limited of Bangladesh has constructed two connecting roads and infrastructure.

Dewan Abdul Quader said 40 spans have already been set up. It has been visible for 6 kilometers. 20 spans have already been placed at the Jazira end. And 19 spans have been placed at the end of Mawa. A span is placed between the ends of Mawa and Jajira. Today, with the installation of the 41st span, the entire Padma bridge has become visible.

The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2017 with the installation of the first span on pillars 37 and 38. All the spans of the bridge will be installed in three days, two months and 10 days. About four months after the first span, the second span took place on January 28, 2018. A month and a half later, on March 11, the third span was placed at the end of Jazira. Two months later, on May 13, the fourth span. Then the fifth span sits on June 29 at the head of a month 18 days. The sixth span took place on January 23, 2019 at the end of 6 months and 25 days. Then the seventh span is placed. On February 20, 2019, the eighth span sat on pillars 35 and 36 at the end of Jazira. The ninth span is on March 22 and the tenth span is on April 10 at the end of Mawa. Then, after a long four months due to floods, the 32nd span has been installed on 11 October. On 19th the 33rd, 25th October 34th, 31st October 35th, 6th November 36th, 12 November 37th, 21st November 38th, 27th November 39th and 4th December 40th spans were installed.

It is learned that the overall progress of Padma Bridge is more than 72 percent. The progress of the main bridge work is 91 percent. Financial progress is 88.38 percent. The contract value of the main bridge is 12 thousand 133.39 crore Tk. So far 10 thousand 723.63 crore rupees has been spent. The actual progress of river management work is 75.50 percent and the financial progress is 65.17 percent. The contract value of the river management work is Tk 8,707.81 crore and so far Tk 5,674.48 crore has been spent. Link Roads and Service Areas The progress of the actual work of the link roads and service areas is 100%.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the entire work of Padma Bridge will be completed in the next 10 to 12 months. “It’s a unique bridge in the world,” he said. Railways will also run here, road vehicles will also run.

Obaidul Quader said this at a press conference held at the conference room of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges at the Secretariat on Monday.

Vehicles will run on the span of the country's largest 6.15 km long Padma bridge. And the train will run down. There will be 2,917 roadway slabs for roads and 2,959 railway snabs for railways. The installation work is in full swing. And 1312 iron girders are being installed with railway slabs. The structure of the bridge is being constructed with concrete and steel.
