Staff Reporter: A case has been filed against Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, leader of Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis, under the Digital Security Act for spreading anti-sculpture remarks through social media.
Advocate Abdul Malek, founder and executive president of the Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the case in the court of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge As Sam Jaglul Hossain on Thursday (December 10th).
The case was filed under sections 21/25/28 and 31 of the Digital Security Act. The court has not yet ruled on the case.
The plaintiff in the case, Abdul Malek, confirmed the matter and said, "I have filed a case against Mamunul Haque under the Digital Security Act for spreading anti-sculpture remarks through social media."
Earlier on Monday (December 7), Advocate Abdul Malek, founder and executive president of the Bangabandhu Foundation, filed another case in the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder alleging sedition. The court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case and submit a report by January 7.
The case alleges that "the accused Mamunul Haque threatened to demolish the sculpture of Bangabandhu at a discussion meeting at the BMA auditorium on Topkhana Road in the capital on November 13. At that time, he said in his speech, 'corpse after corpse will fall, but the sculpture of Bangabandhu will not be allowed to build.' As a result of this statement, the image and respect of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been tarnished.”
