Staff- Reporter: The High Court has directed to take necessary measures to sprinkle water at different points including Gabtali, Jatrabari, Purbachal, Keraniganj and Tongi.
The High Court directed the Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department to prevent air pollution. During a hearing on a supplementary application on Thursday (February 4), The High Court bench comprising Justice Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order.
The order directed the two city corporations of Dhaka to sprinkle water on the streets of the capital from above; So that the dust and dirt accumulated in the small trees on the side of the road is cleaned.
The High Court also directed the managing director of Dhaka WASA to help in case of water shortage. Within a month of receiving the order, the court has asked to implement these instructions and submit a report in the form of an affidavit.
Lawyer Manzil Morshed appeared for the court. Lawyer Amatul Karim appeared for the Department of Environment. Saeed Ahmed Raja was the lawyer for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Tawfiq Inam Tipu was the lawyer for South City Corporation (DSCC). Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmoud Bashar represented the state.
The writ petition was filed on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) by attaching a report published in the media on January 21, 2019 on air pollution in Dhaka. On January 28 of the same year, the court ruled on the writ petition.
