Police arrested 55 more teenagers from Hatirjheel

Staff Correspondent:Police have arrested 55 more teenagres from capital's Hatirjheel area for harassing visitors. The raid, which began on Tuesday (February 2nd), has so far detained more than 150 teenagers.

Hatirjheel Police Station OC Abdur Rashid said, “Hundreds of people came with their families to visit the lakes and surrounding area of Hatirjheel. But a gang of teenagers who ruin the environment by riding motorcycles with high speed, honking loudly which scare the visitors. Some of them tease young girls. A total of 52 teenagers were detained during the operation from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, 31 people were arrested. 60 on Saturday.

He added, "Action will be taken after verifying the data of 52 juveniles detained on Tuesday."

Earlier, out of 31, action has been taken against 5 people on charges of mass harassment. The detainees will not come to Hatirjheel area any more and they have been handed over to the guardians with a bond that they have to report to Hatirjheel police station once a week.

Deadly clashes among the gangs are common here and in a similar incident a boy was stabbed to death in last February. There is also report that these eenagers are accused of stealing, mugging and creating chaos.

The OC further said that such operation will be carried out on regular basis to free Hatirjheel from all kind of harassment.
