Legal action would be taken against Al Jazeera: Foreign Minister

staff Correspondent: The report published by Qatar based Al Jazeera on Bangladesh is baseless. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said legal action would be taken against the news agencyfor spreading misinformation.

He made the remarks while talking to media in Dhaka on Wednesday (February 3rd). The foreign minister said Al Jazeera had made a report, showing 2 men standing behind the Prime Minister are her bodyguards. 'This is a blatant lie. She (Prime Minister) has no bodyguards, she never appointed bodyguards, all the party leaders and workers are her bodyguards.'

Now there is SSF. If someone comes behind and takes a photo, he does not become a bodyguard. This is false news. Media outlets like Al Jazeera how can publish this kind of news. "They (Al Jazeera) should apologize," the minister demanded.

"You know Al Jazeera can't see good things in Bangladesh," Momen said. "Al Jazeera's job is to find fault with Muslim countries. Many are funding and they are playing drums. One of our sons-in-law has become involved with them."

Asked if there were any plans to ban Al Jazeera in Bangladesh, he said Al Jazeera had said it would show a few more episodes.

"There are currently no plans to stop broadcasting. There are speculating that Al Jazeera has been paid to for the report. Al Jazeera has lost its credibility, "he said, adding that Al Jazeera is not seen in the United States.

Asked whether Al Jazeera's report was paid news, the minister said it looked like that.

Asked whether legal action would be taken against Al Jazeera, the minister said, "We are looking into legal action." The report contains informative errors. Explaining this, he said, "During the grenade attack in 2004, you saw, who were the bodyguards of Sheikh Hasina?" This Suranjit (Suranjit Sengupta), this Saber Hossain (Saber Hossain Chowdhury), this Maya (Mofazzal Hossain Maya), these brothers were the bodyguards.

Of course, we can take legal action against any misinformation in the report.

Earlier, Al Jazeera brodcasted an investigative report titled “All the Prime Minister’s Men.”
