Britney Spears' conservatorship case

Spears’ statement in court

Entertainment Desk : Getting the taste of success and stardom at the sensitive age of 16, singer Britney Spears, despite moving millions with classic hits like ‘Baby One More Time’, that has remained to be the best-selling album by a teenage solo artist even after 20 years, has spent the past decade disgraced by her mental breakdown caught by the paparazzi in 2008.

The events following the release of the photo has led Spears to be under conservatorship for the past 13 years, making her lose all rights to make financial and general life choices, mostly in the hands of her father Jaime Spears.

In light of the ongoing case, the 39 year old singer made an emotional statement in the court of Los Angeles saying, ‘I just want my life back,’ and that she was ‘traumatized’

Speaking in the open-court for the first time regarding her issue, anger, frustration, and regret-driven Spears said that she wants to end the ‘abusive’ conservatorship, in her 20-minute address to the court.

In her statement she accused her conservator of taking away her choice in having a child by not allowing her to remove her contraceptive device, and her ability in conversing by forcing her to take lithium, which is commonly used to medicate individuals with bi-polar disorders, which left her in a drunken haze.

She added that the conservatorship is doing her ‘more harm than good,’

The allegations have apparently left Britney’s father and conservator, Jaime Spears, at a loss, according to his lawyer. He was said to be ‘sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain,’ in a statement read by his representative in court.

Outside the court were seen standing members of the #FreeBritney movement, who rose in 2009 out of disdain for the conservatorship agreement and garnered popularity following the release of New York Times released documentary, “Framing Britney Spears”.

The same documentary had put singer and ex-boyfriend of the star, Justin Timberlake under flames for treating Britney disrespectfully in the course of their relationship.

Timberlake, besides apologizing for his misdemeanors earlier, came in the support of Britney regarding her recent court hearing, tweeting that ‘we should all be supporting Britney at this time’ and that ‘what's happening to her is just not right.’

Current boyfriend and actor Sam Asghari posted a picture on Instagram of himself in Free Britney T-Shirt.

Pop sensation Mariah Carey in a tweet asked Britney to ‘Stay strong.’

Britney is currently seeking to appoint Jodi Montgomery, a care professional, permanently into the role of her conservator, instead of her father.
