Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been selected to act as the ambassador and advisor to the globally renowned lingerie brand, Victoria’s Secret.
After years of promoting female hypersexualization, unrealistic beauty and body standards, the brand has finally ditched its campaign for feeding into the fantasies of the male population. It has instead switched things up by signing up US soccer star, Megan Rapinoe, into the roster for their 2022 show.
Joining Rapinoe, will be Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Brazilian transgender model Valentina Sampaio.
Following up this announcement, Priyanka has taken it up on Instagram yesterday to share her excitement regarding the news, and talk about why “representation matters”.
“It’s crucial for us to show everyone all over the world that they matter and are seen!” mentioned the actor, entrepreneur, and former Miss World.
She also mentioned in her post that she is excited to work with a brand like Victoria’s Secret, as with the evolving times she feels like she gets to play a part “in shaping the evolution” of the brand in a more “impactful” way.
Priyanka ended the caption with a heartwarming postscript to her “dream team” as she thanks them for “thinking big with” her, and, “fighting the big fights!” “Love you and am especially proud of you on this one!” she added.
The New York Times has informed the formation of a group called the VS Collective, which comprises of 7 women alternatively advising the brand, and making appearances in ads promoting it.
CEO of Victoria’s Secret, Martin Waters, who was formerly the brands head of international business, told New York Times, “When the world was changing, we were too slow”. He further went ahead and said,” “We needed to stop being about what men want and to be about what women want,”
The seven advisors are joining a brand new executive team, with a female dominated board of directors.
