Acclaimed artist Britney Spears, once-famous for producing iconic hits like “Baby One More Time” and “Womanizer”, is nowadays known more as a victim of a rather “Toxic” conservatorship case, where she has lost all rights in making financial and major life decisions.
The decision had been made by the L.A court in 2008, after paparazzi photos of a mentally distraught Britney were released in the same year, deeming Britney’s father Jaime Spears as one of her conservator.
Alongside her father, Bessemer Trust, a wealth management firm had also been made the financial co-conservator of Britney’s $60 million estate last year by L.A Superior Court Judge, Brenda Penny.
The firm on Thursday, in a petition to the Los Angeles court asked to be removed from the case concerning Britney Spears conservatorship, following the star’s testimony that she opposed the arrangement.
Bessemer Trust petitioned for this mentioning “changed circumstances” like “the fact that the Conservatee claimed irreparable harm to her interests."
The firm had previously mentioned not receiving any fees, or taking actions in handling Spears’ assets, as it was awaiting court-authorized documents in aiding it to do so.
The singers’ conservatorship case has been the subject of a vocal campaign by fans uniting under the #FreeBritney movement and has garnered more attention after New York Time’s documentary “Framing Britney Spears”.
