International Desk: At least 490 people were injured as an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 has struck the northwest of Iran.

The earthquake originated near the city of Khoi in Iran's West Azerbaijan province on Wednesday, Reports CGTN.
According to the Iranian Seismological Center of the University of Tehran, the earthquake struck at 3:51am (local time). Its depth was 10 km.

The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) earlier reported that the magnitude 5.5 earthquake originated near the Armenia-Azerbaijan-Iran border.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake originated at a depth of 10 km below from the surface, about 11.6 km from Khoi.

The country's state-run media quoted Khoi's emergency department as saying, So far, 390 people have been injured, 68 of whom have been hospitalized.
In July, at least five people were killed and more than 80 injured when a 6.1 magnitude quake struck the Persian Gulf province.

It came a week after an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 struck the same province, although no casualties or major damage was reported at the time.
