International Desk : An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 has hit in northern Japan, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The epicentre of the quake was northern coastal part of Iwate Prefecture, the agency said.
At least nine municipalities, including the cities of Hachinohe and Misawa in the Aomori region and the cities of Miyako and Kuji in the Iwate region, felt a magnitude 5 tremor, the fifth-highest magnitude on the Japanese scale, the local weather agency said.

However, no tsunami warning was issued.
Japan is frequently hit by earthquakes because of its location along the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin, reports Reuters.
