Staff Reporter: The government is not thinking about opening any educational institution now, said the Minister of Education, Dipu Moni. The Minister said, “Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Maintaining physical distance here is extremely difficult. Besides, if the educational institutions are opened, their parents have to go to the educational institution with the children. In that case the infection may increase. Although children have a lower risk of contracting covid, they can be silent carriers.”

She made the remarks while exchanging views with UN envoys on 'Coronation and post-Coronation education activities'. The meeting was held at the official residence of the Education Minister at Hare Road.

In this situation, many parents do not want to send their children to school. Therefore, the government is emphasizing on continuing education activities in an alternative way, said the Education Minister.

The education minister said, “Our educational institutions have been closed for a long time. As a result, some students are likely to drop out. Child marriage and child labor may increase. Students are being hindered from achieving quality education. Despite all the preparations, it was not possible to take the HSC exam of 2020 due to Corona. Completing the syllabus is now a big challenge as there are no formal classes for SSC and HSC candidates to be held in 2021. Moreover, it is not possible to take practical classes online in the field of technical education. On the other hand, our children are also suffering from various psychological problems due to the closure of educational institutions for a long time. ”

UNICEF Bangladesh Country Director Tomo Hozumi was present at the occasion led by UN Resident Coordinator Mia Seppo. In addition, the Secretary of the Department of Technical and Madrasa Education.
