Sun News Desk: Mohammad Shahabuddin Chuppu has been elected unopposed the country's next president.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal declared the announcement on Monday.
The CEC said Awami League nominee Shahabuddin Chuppu became president-elect by default as no one else submitted any nominations. The commission will issue a notification in this regard today.

Incumbent President Abdul Hamid assumed office on April 24, 2018. Accordingly, his five-year tenure will end on April 23, 2023.
Earlier on Sunday, a team of the Awami League along with Shahabuddin led by the party General Secretary Obaidul Quader went to the CEC’s office in the capital and submitted his nomination paper.
