Severe Cold in Mid January, Temperature may Drop to 4 Degrees

Staff Reporter: The end of Poush and the beginning of Magh are in the middle of January. A severe cold wave will sweep across some parts of the country at this time. The Meteorological Department has hinted that the temperature may drop to 4-6 degrees Celsius.

The report came from a meeting of the expert committee chaired by meteorological department director and chairman of the expert committee Samsuddin Ahmed on Sunday (January 3rd) to provide long-term forecasts. The report has been sent to the concerned departments of the government including the Ministry of Agriculture.

It said that the country as a whole is likely to receive less than normal rainfall in January. A couple of cold spells may hit the country this month. Which can take the form of an intense 4-6 C cold spell.

This month may see moderate to heavy fog in the north, northeast, northwest and central parts of the country and in river basins and light to moderate fog elsewhere. Dense fog conditions can sometimes continue until noon, the meteorological office said.
Meteorologist Ruhul Quddus told Banglanews that a severe cold wave is expected on January 15-16.

He said it will be cold until mid-February.

On Sunday, Dhaka recorded 10.8 degrees Celsius and the country's lowest temperature was recorded at Tentulia at 6.2 degree Celsius.
