Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh is celebrating its 50th Independende Day with elaborate programmes paying deep homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country during the Liberation War. Marking the day, the government has taken elaborate programs maintaining the health guidelines in view of the global pandemic coronavirus.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War of Bangladesh by placing wreaths at the National Monument at Savar.
On the occasion of the 50th Independence Day, President Mohammad Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation’s independence. Members of the cabinet, members of parliament and the chiefs of the three forces were present at the time. Later, flanked by central leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina as the President of Bangladesh Awami League also laid another wreath at the National Monument.
Then the Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed paid tribute
They stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the great sons of the soil.. After paying their respects, people from all walks of life opened the memorial.
The 10-day grand celebration will end today following the celebration of the Independence and National Day.
