Police won’t face 'image crisis'

Sun News Desk : Police will not face any image crisis due to the US visa policy, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

He made this comment in response to a question from journalists after attending a seminar at the Tourist Police Headquarters on Topkhana Road in the capital on Monday.

Meanwhile, the US State Department on Friday said it had begun applying the visa restrictions the US announced on May 24 this year. It said it imposed visa restrictions on members of law enforcement, the ruling party, and the political opposition.

IGP said "Whenever there is a display of arms, we take action. We believed that we will be able to perform our duties properly during the national election”.

He said they will undertake this type of operation in due time but could share it with media for strategic reason.

IGP also said that "Whenever any incident occurs, we take immediate action. If any member of the police is involved, we do not exempt them either. We investigate each incident and take appropriate action."
