PM to open hajj programme

Sun News Desk : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate hajj programme at the hajj camp in the capital’s Ashkona on Friday.

Md Motiul Islam, Additional Secretary (hajj section) of Religious Affairs Ministry, confirmed the information today.

He said the prime minister will go to the hajj camp to open the hajj programme. After the inaugural programme, she will exchange greetings with the hajj pilgrims.

He also said the first hajj flight will take off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Saudi Arabia at 2:45am on May 21.

According to the hajj agreement with Saudi Arabia, a total of 1,27,198 people from Bangladesh will be able to perform Hajj this time. Of them, 15,000 pilgrims will perform hajj under the government management.

The Hajj pilgrims’ registration process has already been completed. However, due to the high cost of the hajj package, the hajj quota could not be fully filled.

The hajj is expected to be held on June 27 subjected to the sighting of the moon.
