Sun News: Lakshmipur MP Shahid Islam papul was sentenced to four years in jail on human trafficking charge. The verdict was handed down on Thursday (January 26th). The Kuwaiti court also fined Papul 1.9 million Dinars equivalent to Tk 53 crore.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a letter through the Ministry of External Affairs seeking information on Papul's assets. The letter was sent through the Foreign Ministry at noon on Tuesday (January 28).
On June 6, MP Papul was arrested on charges of human trafficking by a Kuwaiti court. At the same time, the ACC launched an investigation into the acquisition of illegal assets against Papul and his family on the basis of information on unusual transactions in various banks.His bankaccounts have been frozen.
On November 11, the ACC filed a case against MP Papul, his wife MP Selina Islam, daughter Wafa Islam and sister-in-law Jasmine Pradhan on charges of money laundering and illegal acquisition of assets.
