Staff Reporter: In the face of student movement across the country, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has issued a notification fixing half fares for private buses.

The notification was issued on five conditions on Monday (December 13) following the decision of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association.

The five conditions that apply to the half-fare are: 50 percent less than the existing fare, students must bring the updated photo ID issued by their respective educational institution with the valid identity card and display it if necessary, from 7 am to 8 pm. Students will have the opportunity to pay this half fare (concessional fare) in case of traveling on a private bus, this half fare will not be applicable on educational institution holidays and a half fare will not be effective on long-distance buses.

The notification further said that half fare will be considered effective from 1st December 2021 in Dhaka metropolis and from 11th December 2021 in other metro areas.
