Staff Correspondent: We don't want war. But if Bangladesh is ever attacked by an external enemy, we want to have the capability to deal with it, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
She made the remarks while commissioning the naval vessels Banauza Omar Farooq, Abu Ubaidah, Pratasha, visitors and searchers via video conferencing from Ganobhaban on Thursday (November 5th).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "We do not want to fight with anyone." The Father of the Nation has said in our foreign policy that friendship with all, not enmity with anyone. We believe in that principle. But if Bangladesh is ever attacked by an external enemy, we want to acquire the capability to deal with it. So we are strengthening the navy to protect the sea border.
"The father of the nation has said -" A strong navy will be formed for geopolitical needs. We are following in his (Bangabandhu's) footsteps and taking various steps. We have no realistic plans for various infrastructural developments, procurement of warships and enhancement of operational capabilities of existing ships to make the Navy a modern, efficient, strong force. '
The Prime Minister said, "We have started implementing the Goals 2030 in the light of the defense policy that he laid down for our armed forces, not just the Navy."
Sheikh Hasina said, "We have also taken steps to build our navy as a modern and strong force. We have added modern equipment to the Navy, including the current generation of advanced submarines, warships, maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters. Through this we are continuing our efforts to build a three-dimensional navy to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century."
"we want our country to prosper, that is the only vison we are working on. The ships that are commissioned today will make our navy stronger. The advance of the navy went one step further. "
She said that today we have been able to add to the navy the 5 state-of-the-art warships Banauza Omar Farooq, Abu Ubaidah, Pratasha, visitors and searchers. You know, I firmly believe that two frigates and a state-of-the-art corvette equipped with modern weapons from the People's Republic of China and two modern survey ships built at our own Khulna Shipyard will further strengthen the navy's ability to defend Bangladesh's sovereignty."
Praising the ability to build ships in her own country, Sheikh Hasina said, "The ability to build ships in our own yard strengthens our confidence. We may be able to build and deliver ships for other countries in the future. We will achieve that ability."
The Prime Minister said "The government has taken initiative to enrich the country by extracting marine resources besides protecting the maritime boundaries. In this case we have taken this idea of Blue Economy and we are working on it."
"The ocean resources that can contribute to our economy, the immense potential of this ocean, the extraction of the ocean resources we have, the use of them is our goal and we are working towards that goal.
Praising the navy, the Prime Minister said, "Starting from natural calamities, the members of our navy are constantly providing security to the sea area from behind the eyes of the people. It really deserves praise."
Mentioning that the navy has gained the confidence and admiration of the people through various peace-loving activities, he said, "Especially this time during the corona virus, our navy has played its due role." Moreover, in any natural calamity, they stand by the people and play a proper role and help the people.
Calling on all to abide by the rules of hygiene, including wearing masks, the Prime Minister said "Winter is coming and the corona virus is spreading all over the world again. There have already been lockdowns in many places in Europe. We want to protect the people of our country. So we have to be aware from now on. Everyone needs to take care of health care."
