International Desk: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has resigned and left the country. The Taliban are regaining power after 20 years being ousted by US-led forces, The Taliban has already announced the name of Mullah Abdul Gani Bardar as the new president. However, the organization has not yet made any official announcement in this regard.
Meanwhile, international media quoted various sources as saying that Mullah Abdul Gani Baradar is going to be the president of the Taliban Government.
It is learned that Bardar was born in 1968 in the village of Witmak in Deh Rahwad district of Oruzgan province of Afghanistan. He fought in 1980 with the help of US troops to drive Soviet troops out of Afghanistan.
He later ran a madrassa in Maiwand, Kandahar province with former commander Mollah Omar. He is one of the founders of the Taliban movement. Bardar was one of the loyal associates of Mullah Omar.
Bardar served in key Government positions from 1996 to 2001 during the Taliban regime. He has served as Governor of Herat and Nimroz. He is the commander of most Taliban military operations in southern Afghanistan. He is also known to have held important positions in the army.
In 2010 Bardar was arrested in Karachi by a special team of Pakistani and US intelligence agencies. The United States later asked Pakistan to release him.
He was finally released in 2016 to continue the Taliban's peace talks with the United States. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed political leader of the Organization. He was also appointed head of the Taliban's diplomatic office in Doha, Qatar.
Bardar then signed an agreement with Washington on the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in February 2020.
