Staff Reporter: Aung San Suu Ki, the de facto leader of Myanmar and other ruling party officials habe been detained by the military on Monday.
The detention news came on the day when the new parliament was supposed to be inaugurated. A spokesman of the ruling party the National League for Democracy said that the president Win Myint and Suu Ki were taken early morning urging people “not to respond rashly and I want them to act according to the law,"
Spokesman Myo Nyunt also expected to be detained said that most of the important people of the party has been arrested by the military and this move raised concerns of a possible coup.
All communication services including phone and internet are disrupted in major cities and the state broadcaster MRTV was off the air.
Soldiers were in the streets of both the capital, Naypyidaw, and Yangon, Over the past week, the deployment of an unusually high number of tanks raised alarm among civilians and government officials, multiple sources reorted.
The arrests and over all situations raised concerns that the country’s transition to democracy has stalled.
