International Desk: A sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi has been vandalized in Davis, California, USA. This was vandalized last Thursday. India has strongly condemned the incident.
A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday said, "On January 28, unknown miscreants have vandalized and broken a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Central Park, Davis, California. India strongly condemns this incident. The sculpture was gifted to the city of Davis by the Indian government in 2016.
the 6fit tall bronze statue of Gandhi appeared to have been ripped off from its base,halfof the face is severed and missing.
The Indian embassy in Washington has also called for a thorough investigation and ensure appropriate punishment for the culprits marking it as 'despicable act'.
The US Department of the Interior has expressed its regret over the incident. They say it is not acceptable in any way and they have taken it seriously. Legal action will be taken against the culprits as soon as possible. Source: Hindustan Times.
