Md. Nazir Hossain, Munshiganj: After two spells of rain this year in Munshiganj, rotting disease has spread widely in the potato fields. The potato farmers are not able to protect the field from the disease despite frequent spraying of medicine. As a result, suffering does not seem to recede.

Several potato fields of Munshiganj Sadar and Tongibari Upazila were visited on the surface, the leaves of the potato plants were affected. In many fields, the trunks of potato plants have rotted. Farmers are not able to protect potato plants from diseases even by using expensive drugs.

According to Munshiganj District Agriculture Extension Department sources, this year, potatoes have been cultivated on a total of 34 thousand 355 hectares of land in the district. Most of these potatoes have been cultivated in district headquarters and Tongibari upazila.

In Sadar Upazila's Bajrayogini, Mamasar, Atpara, Mahakali, Charkewar, Mollakandi, Adhara and Outshahi, Balai, Baligaon, Panchgaon, Mandra, Mutukpur, Dhipur areas of Tongibari Upazila, it was seen that the leaves of the vast potato fields are covered with thosa.

The trunks of the potato plants in many fields have rotted and the plants have become embedded in the soil. The farmer is spraying expensive expensive band medicine. Even then, the disease spread.

Generally, the bands of famous and expensive drugs say to spray drugs every 12/15 days, but farmers are spraying drugs every week. Apart from the medicinal spray, they are busy cleaning the land and applying irrigation to the land.

Manowar Hossain, a farmer of Balai village in Tongibari upazila, said that he is spraying medicine every week. Even then, diseases are increasing in potato plants. People from pharmaceutical companies are recommending different methods of spraying drugs on the land.

We are spraying the medicine according to the method taught to them. But still the disease is increasing.

Farmer of Sadar Upazila Bajrayogini village. Monir Hossain said, we are going with medicine in the land. But the disease is not stopping at all. I bought 250 grams of the most expensive medicine in the market for 900 taka and gave it to the land. However, the disease continues to increase.

Farmers of the district suffered a lot due to two rounds of rain while cultivating potatoes this year. Potato seeds rot.

Potato cultivation is delayed by more than a month due to rain. Although November is the best time for potato cultivation, the farmers of the district have been seen tilling half of the month of January this year.

In this regard, the Deputy Director of Munshiganj Agricultural Extension Department. Md. Abdul Aziz said, this year, more than our target, 34 thousand 355 hectares of land have been cultivated in Munshiganj. Our target was 34 thousand 346 hectares.

When there was thick fog and cloudy weather in Munshiganj, the disease could not attack the plants as the growth of our potato plants was not so good.

He also said that the weather is good now. But still if the potato plant is affected by disease or rot. Then Acroved MZ or Secure should be sprayed once a week after thoroughly soaking the whole potato plant.

If the plant is not affected by rotting disease, then spray the drugs like DiathenM-45, Acrovate M-45.
