Own Correspondent: Visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid floral tributes to the martyred freedom fighters at the Savar National Memorial on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the olden Jubilee of Independence.
On Friday (March 19) morning, he entered the Savar National Memorial and paid his homage as a mark of respect for the martyrs of Bangladesh.
"May every visitor to this revered ground honour the sacred memory of the millions who were slain but not silenced," wrote Indian Primier in the Visitors' Book and planted a Parijat flower sapling in the premises of the memorial.
Earlier, heads of state of different countries took part in the 10-day program on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary and golden jubilee of independence from March 17 to 26. The Prime Minister of India took part on the last day (March 26).
The relations between the two countries are deep in terms of trade, commerce and cultural exchange.
On Friday, the Prime Minister of India will also pay homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi-32 and visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. In the afternoon, Modi will take part in the celebration of Bangabandhu's birth centenary and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence at the National Parade Ground.
On Saturday (March 27) morning, Narendra Modi will pay homage at the Ishwaripur Jessoreswari Kali Mandir in the Sundarbans of Satkhira. He will leave the Jessoreswari temple at around 10 am after performing puja. He will then leave for Tungipara in Gopalganj by helicopter.
He will visit Bangabandhu's tomb at Tungipara in Gopalganj and Shridham Orakandi Thakurbari, a pilgrimage site of the Matua community of Kashiani upazila.
Besides, during his visit to Bangladesh, he will hold meetings with several political parties including the ruling Awami League and the opposition BNP.
During the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many agreements are likely to be signed with Bangladesh. Among these are investment, trade and mutual cooperation. It is also learned that India will come to a quick decision on the Teesta treaty. Narendra Modi will leave Bangladesh on Saturday night.
