Want to Uproot Militancy Completely: IGP

Staff Correspondent: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Benazir Ahmed. has expressed his determination to uproot militancy from Bangladesh.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of an awareness-raising OVC and TVC on online-based extremism and militancy, organized by the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of the police at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Sunday (January 18).

"We have to be vigilant until the last militant is wiped out," the IGP said. "There is no room for complacency. I want to uproot the last roots of militancy from Bangladesh".

He said that militancy has emerged as a global challenge and Bangladesh, like the rest of the world, is facing this challenge like other countries.

"But due to the zero tolerance of the Prime Minister and the anti-militancy stance of the peace loving people of this country, their nefarious intentions did not succeed. The militant attack on the Holy Artisan caused quite a stir. However, we have dealt with the situation quite successfully" -he added.

He further mentioned that militants are currently using social media platforms to continue and spread their activities. Police are alert and cyber patrolling has been strengthened to prevent online-based extremism and militancy.

"There are some people who are always sceptical," he said, referring to the recent criticism of the surrender of nine militants to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). I think they need psychiatric treatment.

He urged every unit to continue cyber patroling through social media.. Also present on the occasion was DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, head of the anti-terrorism unit. Kamrul Ahsan and others.
