Staff Reporter: On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mojibur Rahman, about 9 lakh land and homeless helpless families of the country will get house completely free of cost as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, .
Recently, the Asrayan-2 project, Guchhgram, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is being implemented through a task force comprising of three agencies, district and upazila administration, local MPs, other elected representatives and well-wishers.
According to the Asrayan-2 project, all the landless and homeless families in the country have already been listed for the implementation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's declaration that 'not a single person in Bangladesh will remain homeless'. On the other hand, there are 5 lakh 92 thousand 261 families who have land and no house.
A total of 6 lakh 65 thousand 622 families will be provided housing by the government in phases. The construction cost of each house built on 2 acres of land is 1 lakh 61 thousand rupees. The two-room house has a kitchen, an attached toilet and the necessary space for use. Those who are landless will also be given ownership of 2 hundred houses of land.
In the first phase, the construction of houses for about 6,000 families across the country on the basis of priority of landless-homeless widows, helpless, elderly, destitute and disabled has been almost completed. The houses will be given to the beneficiaries completely free of cost. At some point this month, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute the houses to landless and homeless people.
In addition to the government, politicians, government and non-government officials and wealthy individuals have joined the initiative to provide housing to the homeless. There are 2,898 public representatives in different parts of the country, 99 in various government institutions and private enterprises, and 605 in private and private enterprises.
11 BCS Administrative Associations, 100 Bangladesh Administrative Service Associations, 60 Government Secretaries 180, officials of various Ministries and Departments of the Government are constructing 2,006 and a total of 8,500 houses.
Asylum Project Director (Additional Secretary) said. Mahbub Hossain said that in the first phase, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over houses to about 6,000 families this month. Construction of 1 lakh more houses will be completed in one year in Mujibvarsa. The government will provide houses to 9 lakh families in phases.
