Staff Reporter: The first special session of the parliament in the history of Bangladesh has started. This special session was organized on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the function on Sunday (November 8) at 6 pm.
Although this is a special session, the first working day will continue like any other general session. The concerned said that steps have been taken to present the ordinance, several draft laws and the report of the bill.
The proceedings of the special session of Parliament will begin on Monday (November 9) with a memorandum by the President.
At the beginning of the session, the Speaker informed about the installation of a portrait of Bangabandhu in the Parliament House. He said the main proceedings of the special session will begin on November 9. On the same day, the President will address the Parliament. Besides, MPs including Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina will pay homage to the Father of the Nation through discussion. The speaker also mentioned that the discussion will continue till Thursday.
He later nominated a member of the presidium for the current session. They are Abul Kalam Azad, Biren Sikder, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Anisul Islam Mahmud and Umme Kulsum Smriti. Speaker, in the absence of the Deputy Speaker, the members of the Presidium conduct the sittings of Parliament.
After the nomination of the Presidium, the Speaker raised a motion of condolence. Parliament mourns the death of former state minister AKM Mosharraf Hossain, former member of the Constituent Assembly Syed AKM Emdadul Bari, former MPs Mumtaz Begum, Nurul Islam, Khandaker Golam Mostafa and Shamsul Haque Talukder.
Besides he also expressed condolences to Attorney General Advocate Mahbubey Alam, former Attorney General Barrister Rafiq-ul Haq, Amir Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi of Hefazat-e-Islami, Ekushey Medal winning writer Rashid Haider, eminent journalist poet Abul Hasnat, MP Kaniz Sultana's husband Zahid Hossain Bachnam, Shiria Khanam, Kazi Nurjahan Begum, mother of Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Ziauddin Tariq Ali, trustee of the Liberation War Museum, Maryam Helal, sister of the country's first prime minister Shahid Taj Uddin Ahmed, and Brother Robbie Theodore, principal of St. Joseph's School.
As in the previous three sessions, the proceedings of this session will be conducted in compliance with strict hygiene rules to avoid the risk of epidemic Covid-19.
At the beginning of the special session of the President. Abdul Hamid will give the speech. Before the President's speech, the speech on Bangabandhu's return home on January 10, 1972 will be shown in the Parliament House.
In the meantime, Covid-19 samples of MPs, journalists and other officials and employees of the Parliament Secretariat have been tested in the special session. All Corona Negative MPs will have the opportunity to attend the November 9 meeting. From then on, as before, the MPs will join the roster-based meeting.
