Sun News Desk : The government reduced fuel oil prices under an automated system matching with the prices prevailing in the global market.

A gazette notification was issued today re-fixing the fuel oil prices.
The new prices of fuel oils will be effective on Friday (March 8).

According to the gazette, diesel and kerosene prices have been re-fixed at Tk 108.25 per litre lowering by 75 paisa from the existing Tk 109 per litre.
Besides, petrol price has been re-fixed at Tk 122 per litre lowering by Tk 3 from the existing Tk 125 per litre, while octane price has been re-fixed at Tk 126 reducing by Tk 4 from the existing Tk 130 per litre.

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) always earns profit selling petrol and octane. The BPC's profit and loss main depend on diesel price. Almost 75 percent of the fuel oils used in the country is diesel. The BPC has earned profit by selling diesel at a higher rate for a long time.
However, the BPC sources said a negligible amount of profit now come from selling diesel.
