Freedom Not Achieved Abruptly

Own Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, independence has come through long planning, independence did not come suddenly. Bangabandhu has worked through the movement for people's rights.

She said these things at a function organized at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on the occasion of the historic March 7 on Thursday (March 7).

The Prime Minister said, before the election, my father went to London in October 1969. After he (Bangabandhu) was released, I went to Italy with my husband. From Italy my husband got a job again in London, moved there. Sitting there, he said his plan, elections will be held, election results will come, they will not give power, we have to fight. I am still a witness to the preparations for war, he planned. Discussed with two representatives of India. We will have a guerilla war, how will there be shelter if the refugees go there, what will the expatriate Bengalis do, he makes all the plans.

The Prime Minister said that Yahya Khan had promised to hold elections even under martial law. There were some conditions in the promise. Many political parties and political figures of our country opposed this election. According to that condition, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib decided to go for election. He (Bangabandhu) said that the people should first decide who will lead this country.

Under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for Culture Nahid Izhar Khan, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, Prime Minister's Advisor on Education and Culture Dr. Kamal Abdul Nasser Chowdhury and Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain. The Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Khalil Ahmad gave a welcome speech at the event organized by the Ministry of Culture.
