Dhaka will turn into ‘safe city’: Tarique Rahman

Desk Report

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday pledged to transform Dhaka into a “safe city” and build at least 40 playgrounds across the capital if his party is elected to power.

Speaking at a roadside rally at Engineering Construction Battalion (ECB) intersection in Mirpur under Dhaka-17 constituency at around 3:45 PM, Tarique said BNP aims to make Dhaka a secure city where people can move freely without fear.

“InshaAllah, if we are elected with the support of people, we will turn cities across the country, including Dhaka, into safe cities,” he said, marking the first day of his final election campaign in the capital.

He said Dhaka would be developed into a city where women can walk safely at any time, people can live and work without insecurity and residents can enjoy a clean and healthy environment. “We want to build a beautiful Dhaka where people can breathe freely,” he added.

Highlighting the lack of playgrounds in the area, the BNP chief said he had learned that the locality has insufficient open spaces for recreation.

“If BNP forms the government on February 12, we will not only build playgrounds here but construct at least 40 playgrounds across Dhaka,” he said.

He said the playgrounds would provide open spaces for children to play and allow elderly people and women to walk and spend time outdoors.

Calling for votes in favour of BNP’s election symbol; Dhaner Shish, Tarique said the upcoming election is crucial for rebuilding the nation.

Introducing himself to voters, he said he is a resident and son of Dhaka-17 constituency. “I grew up here. My children and my brother’s children were born here and our family life is deeply connected to this area,” he said.

As a local candidate, he urged elders, women and young voters to support him in February 12 election by voting for Dhaner Shish.

Tarique also promised to develop the road from ECB Chattar to Jasimuddin area to ease communication problems for local residents.

After the rally, he left for another campaign meeting at Adarsha High School at Senpara of Mirpur-10 area.

He is also scheduled to address rallies in Pallabi’s Lalmath under Dhaka-16, Mirpur under Dhaka-15, National Bangla High School ground opposite Mirpur Model Thana under Dhaka-14, Shyamoli Club ground under Dhaka-13 and Satarkul area of Badda under Dhaka-11.
