The High Court on Tuesday directed the Election Commission to allow Chittagong-2 constituency BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir to contest the February 12 election, declaring his nomination valid. An HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan issued this order.
Earlier Sarwar Alamgir filed a writ with the High Court to get back his candidacy. The court also stayed the EC's decision to reject Sarwar's nomination paper and issued a rule asking the commission why its decision should not be declared illegal.
On January 22, the Supreme Court chamber judge stayed a High Court order which cleared Sarwar of loan default status as he rescheduled his loans with financial organisation Premier Leasing.
