Cost of Corona Virus Project Increased Fivefold

Staff Reporter: The first amendment of ' Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pendamic Preparedness' project has been approved. In the amendment, the project cost has been increased to Tk 6,786.59 crore. The original cost of the project was Tk 1,127.52 crore. In other words, the cost of this project to corona corona increased to 5 thousand 659 crore 7 lakh.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (January 5th) approved amendments to the project.

Out of the total cost of the project, the government will provide Tk 172.46 crore. At first the government was supposed to give 277crore 52 lakh taka..

The foreign debt for the project has increased to Tk 6614.13 crore. The initial foreign loan for the project was Tk 850 crore. At present the debt has increased to 5 thousand 764 crore 13 lakh taka.

The project will be implemented from April 2020 to June 2023.

The project is being implemented by the Department of Health Services at the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
