He was speaking as the chief guest at the Bangladesh Press Council Medal 2020 awards ceremony at the Information Building auditorium in the capital's Kakrail on Saturday (November 28). Press Council Chairman Justice Mohammad Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed presided over the State Minister for Information. Murad Hasan, members of the Press Council, Awami League Advisory Council members Abdul Matin Khasru and Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Press Council Medal Jury Board Chairman Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Council Member Naeem Nizam spoke on the occasion.
Stating that the law is being updated to increase the power of the Press Council at this time, the Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a history of unprecedented development and welfare of media has been created in the country in the last one century. In line with this progress, there is a need to increase the capacity of the Press Council. Therefore, work is underway to make the existing laws up-to-date.
Calling for further expansion of the role of the media, he described spiritual development along with material development as essential for building a developed nation.That is why the media can play the most important role in shaping the thinking of the new generation, he said.
