Thousands of soldiers were deployed on roads and polling stations across the country as voting began on Thursday (February 8) morning. At the same time, Pakistan's borders with Iran and Afghanistan have been temporarily closed.

Bombings and shootings took place in the country's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Dera Ismail Khan district police chief Rauf Qaisrani said four policemen were killed in the morning in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district in the north-west in a bomb attack and firing targeting a police patrol car.
In a separate incident, gunmen opened fire on a security forces vehicle about 40 km north of Dera Ismail Khan. A police officer was killed. Makran Division Commissioner Syed Ahmed Umrani told Reuters that grenade attacks were also reported in different parts of Balochistan. However, polling was not affected as there was no casualty.

Apart from this, some polling stations in North Waziristan have been taken over by Taliban militants, the candidates said. In a letter written to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Mohsin Dawar, a candidate for this area in the northwestern part of the country, said that some of the polling stations in his constituency have been taken over by local Taliban militants; Those who have been threatening the voters and locals before the polls.
