Staff Correspondent: The wave of killing is going on in Afghanistan.Two female judges have been shot dead in kabul. They havebeen working for Afgan Supreme Court.
Local officials have confirmed that they were killed in an attack in the capital, Kabul, on Sunday (January 18th) morning.
Supreme Court spokesman Ahmed Fahim Qaim said the two judges were going to work in a court vehicle. At that time they were ambushed. In a statement, Fahim Qaim said, "It is unfortunate that we lost two female judges in today's attack." The driver of the vehicle carrying them was also wounded in the attack. After firing shots the gunmen riding motorcycle, drove off.
The spokesman said more than 20 women judges were serving in the country's top courts. Kabul police have also confirmed the attack. Jamsid Rasuli, a spokesman for the attorney general's office, said the female judges have been working in the Supreme Court.
In the last few months, violence has surged in various parts of Afghanistan. High profile figures including politicians, judges, journalists, activists are being targeted and have been killed by the suspected militants.
Just a day earlier, two militia members shot dead 12 members of their own group in the country. The killings took place in the western province of Herat. Police described the incident as an internal clash. Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said in a statement on Saturday that the two militia members had fled with weapons and ammunition after killing their colleagues.
