Staff-Reporter: Nine years on, Justice still remains a far cry for the family of the journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Rooney. In the early hours of February 11, 2012, they were killed at their rented apartment in West Raza Bazar. Family members and journalist community expressed their frustrations as RAB failed to submit the investigation report of the sensible murder case 8 times.

So far, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate deffered dates of submitting the probe report for 78 times.

The latest investigation report of the case was scheduled to be submitted to the court on February 3. But the RAB did not submit the report. The court has fixed March 11 for the submission of the report.

On February 11, 2012, Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Maasranga Television and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla were killed. After that, Nowsher Alam Roman, brother of the deceased Runi, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

At first, the investigating officer of the case was a Sub-Inspector (SI) of the police station. Four days later, the investigation into the sensational murder case was handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB). After more than two months of investigation, DB failed to unravel the mystery. Later, on April 17 of the same year, the High Court directed the RAB to investigate the murder case.

Palash Rudra Pal, a doorman of the two accused in the Sagar-Runi murder case, and his alleged friend Tanvir Rahman are out on bail. The other six accused Mintu alias Bargira Mintu, Bakul Mia, Kamrul Hasan Arun, Rafiqul Islam, Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabil and Abu Saeed are in jail. Among the accused, Tanvir is out on bail.

In January 2015, security guards of Sagar-Runi's rented house Enamul Haque and Palash Rudra Pal testified under section 161. So far 156 people have been questioned.
