The Padma Bridge will be opened in 2022

Staff Correspondent: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the construction work of the Padma Bridge will be completed by June next year and it will be open to traffic by June 2022. .

Awami League general secretary came up with the statement through videoconferencing from his official residence with officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) on Wednesday (February 10th). He said that some misleading information about the extension of the construction project of the Dream Bridge has been spread through social media, which is not true. "If the bridge requires any repairing, the timeframe will increase to June 2023 only for the construction firms, but physical works of the bridge must be completed by June 2022," the minister said.

Referring to the proposal to extend the period till 2023 as part of the defect liability period, Obaidul Quader said that the extension is not related to the work of the main structure, the defect liability period is usually taken to hold the construction farms accountable for any mega project.

The bridge minister urged the people not to be confused about this.

Regarding the steps to make the BRTC profitable,Obaidul Quader said that the ongoing trend of BRTC to reduce losses should be maintained. This organization has to come out of the circle of irregularities and minimise losses the BRTC incurs every year..
