Ziaur Rahman to be stripped of gallantry title ‘Bir Uttam'

Staff-Reporter: The Jatiya Muktijoddha Council has decided to cancel the gallantry title of 'Bir Uttam' of former president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. Jamuka, in its 72nd meeting on Tuesday February (9), came up with the decision citing Bangabandhu's assassination. It has cancelled gallantry awards of four retired army officials related with the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujubur Rahman.

Jamuka hasalso formed three-member committee to identify the other supporters of Bangabandhu's assassination.

Law Minister Anisul Haque has said that there is no legal complication in the cancellation of the freedom fighter title of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

He told reporters after receiving the corona vaccine at Kurmitola General Hospital on Wednesday (February 10) at noon.

The law minister said, 'If someone is a freedom fighter but ruined the spirit of the liberation war of Bangladesh by using their title. I left the question to the people as to whether he has any right to the title.'

He said, 'If we get vaccinated, we will get protection against the epidemic. That is why I will request the people to take this vaccine. '

"I was scared of inoculation but I didn't feel any pain today," he said.

The decision will be effective once the Liberation War Affairs Ministry issues a gazette notification and if the title is revoked, all their state facilities will also be revoked,
